Abstract

GONZALEZ DE REQUENA, Juan. THE DEATH OF BAUDRILLARD HAS NOT TAKEN PLACE. ANALYSIS OF OBITUARIES IN THREE SPANISH DIARIES. Revista Chakiñan [online]. 2019, n.7, pp.70-83. ISSN 2550-6722.

The obituaries of renowned intellectuals constitute a kind of news with a specific thematic organization and textual structure. In order to explain the intellectual obituary discourse, it was conducted a discourse analysis of the obituaries of Jean Baudrillard published in three Spanish newspapers: ABC, El Mundo and El País. The results allow to discuss how the construction of news is shaped by the ideological frameworks of the different media, as if distinct intellectual characters had died; a discussion is also opened about the status of this intellectual in contemporary imaginative public.

Keywords : Jean Baudrillard; obituary; intellectual; critical discourse analysis.
