AMBROSI, Marco. ZAPATISM AS A ‘CRITICAL RESISTANCE’ TO NEOLIBERALISM. Revista Chakiñan [online]. 2018, n.4, pp.28-42. ISSN 2550-6722.

The Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN), in January 1994, carried out an armed uprising in the State of Chiapas-Mexico, with the aim of vindicating the rights and autonomy of indigenous people. This event constituted a historic milestone, in Latin America and in the world, since it signified the resurgence of resistance to neoliberalism and capitalism after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. This article seeks to deepen the analysis of the category of "critical resistance" considering the experience of Zapatismo. The methodology consists on the bibliographic review of specialized literature, documents, declarations, reports and audiovisual material on the EZLN history to review concepts, categories, practices and their international influence, particularly with the Ecuadorian indigenous movement. Finally, our conclusion is that zapatista action can be considered a "critical resistance" because it includes a reinterpretation and revaluation of indigenous concepts, categories, experiences and knowledge, in order to unravel the political, economic and social networks of neoliberalism.

Palavras-chave : anti-neoliberal resistance; critical resistance; indigenous movement; zapatismo; Zapatista Army of National Liberation.
