Resumen

QUINONEZ GOMEZ, Herly Alejandra. Poverty: considerations on media coverage in the social media. ReHuSo [online]. 2022, vol.7, n.3, pp.81-91.  Epub 05-Dic-2022. ISSN 2550-6587.  https://doi.org/10.33936/rehuso.v7i3.5155.

The measurement of poverty has been investigated mainly from a unidimensional approach that studies economic aspects. However, since 2010, the multidimensional approach has been gaining momentum, which includes concepts and measurements related to individual and family well-being and the possibility of diagnosing needs to be addressed through public policies. Therefore, it is relevant to describe the journalistic coverage of poverty in the media, by characterizing the academic publications on the subject. This research analyzes the documents found in the Dialnet Plus and Scielo information systems from 2008 to 2020. With the content analysis of six categories, the following results were obtained: there is denial, minimization, sensationalism, yellowing and spectacularism in the social communication media; poverty is a sporadic topic because it appears related to natural events and violence; the journalistic agenda refers to inflation and the basic food basket; the predominant journalistic genre is news and there is a stereotyped and decontextualized image to identify people living in poverty. It is concluded that studies of journalistic coverage with a multidimensional approach are emerging.
