Abstract (The objective was to determine the weight of each construct of the theory of planned behavior to the intention to buy food in supermarkets in Zapotlán el Grande in Jalisco, Mexico with the purpose of contributing to studies of eating behavior through a descriptive quantitative study with a sample of 366 participants using a section of the "Questionnaire on food purchasing practices" with an average Expert Judgment Validation Index of 84.67% and Cronbach's Alpha of 0.965. A Path analysis was carried out which allowed identifying that attitudes (0.320) contribute the greatest weight to the generation of study intention, followed by perceived control (0.095) and subjective norms (-0.059). In conclusion, there is a dialogue between the social and psychological perspectives on study behavior that is reflected in the existence of differences by sex, which it is pertinent to study in depth in future studies.
