SANDOVAL GALLEGOS,, Mónica Gabriela; VILLACRES PUMAGUALLE,, María Lorena; PLAZA LUCERO,, Jenny Lorena  and  LOPEZ CHIRIBOGA,, María Alexandra. Popular beliefs transmitted in the family context: Stories of magical and narrative cultural manifestations of Riobamba. ReHuSo [online]. 2022, vol.7, n.1, pp.1-18.  Epub Apr 03, 2022. This paper presents a set of popular beliefs from the city of Riobamba, obtained from interviews with 86 women from Rio de Janeiro between 65 and 90 years old; among them mothers, grandmothers and women who cared for families. In the first instance, 336 stories were collected, those repeated were separated. There were finally 204 popular beliefs that express magical and narrative cultural manifestations, which have been transmitted for generations within the family environment. Said beliefs were grouped into 17 themes, which show the common object or subject, on which the story revolves, so we have "Beliefs about some religious sacraments", among others. The analysis of this classification identifies that the themes that grouped the greatest number of beliefs were related to: the care of young children, protection rituals, natural phenomena, health and beauty care, mystical gifts of animals and healing properties or harmful effects of some foods.

Keywords : popular beliefs; cultural manifestations; magical stories; popular narrative; linguistic manifestation.
