With the advent of the current pandemic, that has caused a concern in the educational sector to ensure the quality of teaching, the issue of professional ethics of university teachers has become more relevant within the educational praxis. In this sense, the objective of this article is to analyze the need for professional ethics in the teaching and learning process, as well as the importance of ethics training for university teachers because it is essential to adequately plan and develop a series of activities aimed at the integral training of students. This was a documentary research which used the analysis-synthesis method. Based on the systematization and analysis of current sources, this research could determine the conceptualization, importance and principles of professional ethics, since professional educators are at the service of the educational community to seek the common good. Education cannot be understood without ethics: this is unavoidable and is conceived as a reflective knowledge that will encourage university teachers to give a value to their role as educators.
