Resumen

PAZ ENRIQUE, Luis Ernesto; NUNEZ JOVER, Jorge Rafael  y  GARCES GONZALEZ, Roberto. Science building from Latin America: eurocentrism and emancipatory initiatives. ReHuSo [online]. 2021, vol.6, n.3, pp.82-102. ISSN 2550-6587.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.5512959.

Latin America as a research scenario is a region that for years has suffered the consequences of exploitation, dependence and globalization. Latin American science in recent years has made a series of initiatives with the aim of breaking the dependence imposed by the main databases that index publications. The objectives of the study were: 1) to identify the characteristics of Latin American thinking about science, technology and society and 2) to identify the Latin American initiatives that have been carried out for the emancipation of science. To obtain results, methods and techniques are used at the theoretical and empirical levels. It is identified that the relationship between Latin America and the Global North in terms of science and technology has been fundamentally the reception of technologies. There is little presence of Latin American publications in mainstream databases of science. In the region, initiatives have been developed to break the scientific dependence, the most successful are SciELO and SciELO Citation Index.
