Abstract

GARCIA CARRILLO, Luis Alberto; QUINDEMIL TORRIJO, Eneida María  and  RUMBAUT LEON, Felipe. Behavior of latin american journals of library and information sciences in Scopus, Period 1999 - 2019. ReHuSo [online]. 2021, vol.6, n.2, pp.124-140.  Epub Aug 01, 2021. ISSN 2550-6587.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.5512916.

An investigation is presented, the objective of which was to analyze the metric behavior of Latin American Librarianship and Information Sciences journals in Scopus during the period 1999-2019. To access the information, the Scimago Journal and Country Rank (SJR) portal was used, identifying ten journals that underwent a descriptive-retrospective study with a quantitative-qualitative approach and application of bibliometric methods. Likewise, a thematic analysis of these journals was carried out taking the last five years: 2015-2019, using the Statgraphic Centurión XVIII Program for the statistical analysis of the data. Among the main results, the increase in magazines in the region stands out, because although in 1999 there was only one magazine belonging to Cuba; In 2019, ten journals of the profession from Cuba, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Colombia were indexed, some of these countries with more than one journal, such as Brazil with four and Cuba with two. The thematic analysis shows that Librarianship, Information Sciences and Metric Studies are the three prevailing themes in published documents, whose percentage is 60.64% of all documents. As conclusions, it stands out that there is an increase in the productivity and visibility of this science in the region.
