Abstract The objective of this work is to know the scientific production and dissemination of the research on the topic of leadership competencies in English and Spanish between 1975 and 2019. For this purpose, a bibliometric review was carried out in the Web of Science (WoS) database to know the trend, collaboration, and quality in labor research. As a result, 333 published documents were identified and analyzed from the parameters of production volume and citation volume. In terms of production, eight indicators were obtained, resulting in the United States as the country with the highest number of publications. For the citation analysis, VOSviewer 1.6.13 software was used to generate relationship maps among documents and it was obtained that the United States is the country with the greatest collaboration. Among the findings, in1978 began the publication on this topic and the year with the highest number of publications is 2017. This review provides an overview of scientific production on leadership competencies. It is recommended as future work to integrate other databases as well as other languages. This bibliometric review can be complemented by exploring the contents of the identified documents.
