RIGO, Daiana Yamila. Academic engagement and disengagement. Mixed theoretical considerations and methodological decisions. ReHuSo [online]. 2020, vol.5, n.3, pp.104-117.  Epub 04-Dic-2020. ISSN 2550-6587.  https://doi.org/10.33936/rehuso.v5i3.2606.

Abstract This work presents a reflection on the academic engagement from the hybridization of Educational Psychology and Sociology, understanding that Social Sciences have the inescapable task of positioning their studies on education in the intersection tradition-modernity, from the construction of knowledge innovative to respond to problems such as disengagement, lack of interest and participation in university classrooms. Likewise, the engagement as a complex and malleable meta-construct entails a mixed methodological approach that includes research designs in real contexts, various techniques and sources of information to study their deployment in university classrooms, that is, designs, techniques and sources that respond to diverse actors and contexts that weave a network of multiple senses crossed by diverse knowledge, disciplines and data collection strategies. In this scenario, it is intended to carry out a review of the main contributions of Educational Psychology and Sociology to study the engagement of students from a position located in the higher education classroom, attending to the new methodological guidelines within design studies, mixed methodologies and multivariate analyzes, which allow us to capture the inherent complexity of the subject it occupies.
