“The poet is sad, what ails the poet? Sighs escape its letters without metrics, which has lost the criticism, which in ego grew. The poet is undaunted in his lyrics and photos, his pen is mute before all his surroundings and, in a forgotten corner, justice fell silent”. Modifying the verses of Ruben Dario, could be summarized, which its clear exceptions, the current state of the Ecuadorean poetry. The present article manifests itself, then, as a historical-critical account of poetry in Ecuador, in the unfinished two first decades of the 21st century and the preponderant role of the poet as a social entity throughout universal cultures and, above all, his imperious need in a globalized world.
