This research work refers to the ethics of the professional librarian, through a code of ethics in university libraries such as the Dr. Alejandro Muñoz Davila Central Library of the Technical University of Manabí. The objective of this work is to investigate the existence of a code of ethics of the professional librarian: case of the Central Library of the UTM. In addition to propose to the library community a theoretical analysis of the subject, in order to undertake the task of supporting a library ethic, the ethical role of libraries in contemporary society and their social commitment, to which we see the need for the theoretical knowledge of Library Science to add basic ethical principles in relation to that social responsibility of the librarian, aimed at improving their performance professional and his contribution to society. In addition, with the application of the techniques of the survey directed to the personnel that works in the UTM library and the interview directed to the professionals specialized in the area of Library Science, the criteria and suggestions on the code of ethics that must have the librarían.
