Understanding is a process by which we originate meanings by understanding a text, and where the receiver begins by recognizing the auxiliary words and signs, depending on the context, the characteristics of the text and the communicative situation that arises, and then provide meaning, and codify the knowledge of the world, of ideology, in the reconstruction of the events evoked by the author-issuer. This research addresses a current problem within the conditions of current education; also identified as a problem of practice where the author of this work is performed. Consequently, the objective is to propose a teaching-learning strategy that, depending on the design of teaching activities, enhances the understanding of the poetic text from cognitive, reflexive and strategic meta essences. To achieve this goal, a systematization of the philosophical, psychological, sociological and pedagogical assumptions that support the problem was executed; a system of methods was used that allowed an initial and final diagnosis of the level of development of skills for the comprehension of texts that the tenth grade students possess. Its application allowed us to appreciate the difficulties and potential to solve the problem detected.
