The use of teaching resources of all kinds to promote innovation has been a constant in contemporary education, it is intended that students apart from feeling motivated, also better assimilate knowledge, an example of this type of resources are documentaries; It is a fundamental resource to tell stories through characters, situations, relationships, realities or fictions that can serve to illustrate and work in the classroom, numerous aspects of teaching practice, from purely curricular content to attitudes, values or competences that students must develop. There are plenty of audiovisuals that can be used in classes to promote culture, mainly on representative dates in which a specific event in the country's history is commemorated. The use of the documentary can make a difference for the dissemination of important content in classes, regardless of the level in which the students are, it is the teacher's job to select didactic audiovisuals, that propose specific tasks, to generate awareness in the student and, so that is motivated permanently. This research aims to study the documentary, as a didactic resource for the dissemination of Ecuadorian culture in basic education, it was an exploratory type, the scientific method was applied, synthetic analytical and resulted in the fact that teachers consider its use important within the educational process, but due to the lack of technological equipment in educational institutions and the reduced variety of entertaining and didactic documentaries, its frequent application in classrooms is difficult.
