Abstract

GOMEZ VERA, Katherine  and  CEVALLOS, Ángela. The challenge of new technologies: the use of the virtual classroom and its influence in academic performance. ReHuSo [online]. 2019, vol.4, n.3, pp.55-63.  Epub Dec 30, 2019. ISSN 2550-6587.  https://doi.org/10.33936/rehuso.v4i3.2136.

Virtual classrooms have come to revolutionize the educational context, many times the use of a specific application has been confused with this type of scenario, but the reality is that the virtual classroom has a well-defined learning context, which requires the predisposition of teachers and the optimal preparation of students. The rise of new information and communication technologies requires teachers to have more up-to-date knowledge of the subject and to design virtual classrooms designed to complement face-to-face learning, as well as defining new procedures and practices for the construction of knowledge. One of the advantages is that with the implementation of this process learning is given autonomously and allows students to access educational resources through the internet. In this sense, the objective of this academic work is to analyze, how this type of innovative educational strategies, applied by the teacher influence the academic performance of the students, and resulted in the use of virtual classrooms to improve students' learning, where it is also confirmed that the majority of students do not have an adequate knowledge of the use of virtual classrooms and that educators have not been able to teach the students the advantages that they have in the educational process. Study materials, interaction with users, the teacher, access to various platforms are some of the advantages and benefits of virtual classrooms. With it the teaching-process learning becomes a personalized practice in which participants find a greater motivation to access the knowledge available through new educational resources that technology offers, where it can be indicated that virtual classrooms contribute to autonomous teaching and improve the meaningful learning of students, where in turn it was evidenced that there are certain limitations in the use of the virtual classroom.
