This text addresses the need to reassess the contributions of critical pedagogy in relation to the curriculum and its potential contribution to the redefinition of meaningful learning in basic education. Based on the results obtained from this investigation, carried out in the Costa Azul Fiscal Educational Unit of the city of Manta, Ecuador, the knowledge and application of critical pedagogy of Paulo Freire is considered. This is intended to enhance the critical thinking of teachers and to generate a better way for students to approach and solve problems. It is considered in this study that the solution of these problems should be through the proposal of workshops of pedagogical strategies to improve the academic performance of teachers, in order to be up to the pedagogical requirements of the current national curriculum and to develop the intellect of their students, so that they are creators of their own knowledge and improve the teaching-learning process.
