Maintaining a good job performance has been one of the great challenges that the secretaries working for several years in different companies have had to face. The article aims to determine the current situation of professional development of secretaries working in public and private companies in the city of Portoviejo. The research is quantitative, a survey was applied to 60 female employees with different professional titles, who serve as secretaries in these institutions of Portoviejo; as a result, it is demonstrated that these employees have overcome the weaknesses of their training in different areas to the functions they perform, thus supporting the strengthening of organizational goals. This work evidences that the training of the personnel of a company of any type constitutes a key element in the professional and organizational development.
