Abstract

ZAMBRANO., María Yokir Reyna  and  ALCIVAR., Yessly Anahí Castro. Importance of strengthening reading comprehension strategies in higher education institutions. Revista San Gregorio [online]. 2023, vol.1, n.56, pp.194-204. ISSN 2528-7907.  https://doi.org/10.36097/rsan.v1i56.2515.

Reading not only involves decoding texts and meanings, but also involves the adoption of an active role by the reader in which he or she is able to dialogue with the text to internalize its meanings. Thus, reading comprehension has been promoted since the first years of study, but it takes on special relevance when reaching university levels, where a higher level of analysis and critical thinking is required. In this sense, the objective of this research was to analyze the importance of strengthening reading comprehension in university students from the demands of today's society. A qualitative approach was chosen with the use of documentary techniques to collect information. The study had an interpretive design, applying the hermeneutic method to analyze the information collected through bibliographic and documentary review. The results demonstrated that reading comprehension requires the adaptation of teaching and learning strategies through processes that also integrate new information and communication technologies, which is why universities play an active role in its development and strengthening. Finally, the experiences of reading comprehension strategies at Universidad San Gregorio de Portoviejo are describe.
