SANDOVAL, Mario Andrés; ROCKENBACH BINZ, Maria Cristina and GARCIA NUNEZ., Ana Karina. Most frequent surgical and post-surgical complications in third molar surgery. Literature review. Revista San Gregorio [online]. 2022, vol.1, n.52, pp.189-202. ISSN 2528-7907. https://doi.org/10.36097/rsan.v0i52.2252.
The objective of the research was to determine which are the most frequent complications in surgery and post-surgical events related to the extraction of third molars, through a review of the literature of scientific articles between 2015 and 2021. A bibliographic review of related scientific articles was proposed. to surgical and post-surgical complications in the extraction of third molars, in the Pubmed, Google Scholar and Cochrane databases, for which a total of 52 articles were obtained, of which 19 were discarded for not meeting the selection criteria, and 33 articles were added that did meet the research criteria. The results show heterogeneity in the complications caused by the extraction of third molars, being reported root fractures, hemorrhage, nerve damage, oral sinus communication and alveolar osteitis. The most frequent complications derived from the extraction of third molars, in the literature between the years 2015-2021, at the intraoperative level are root fracture and nerve injuries, and at the postoperative level it is alveolar osteitis.
