The increase in malignant neoplasms in the oral cavity in recent years indicates a broad epidemiological profile in young adults. The study of the causes of oral cancer is of worldwide importance that can save thousands of lives. Through early detection, oral cancers, head and neck cancers can be treated early; patients will receive a better prognosis and consequently a higher survival rate. The objective of this research is to identify the most frequent causes of oral cancer in young adults. The literature review for this study is based on scientific articles published between 2015 and 2021. The digital search engines used to collect information were PubMed, Science Direct and Google Scholar; selecting 23 scientific articles for final analysis. As a conclusion of the literature review, it has been determined that the use of tobacco and alcohol, genetic predisposition and associated genetic factors constituted the most frequent causes of oral cancer in young adults.
