Abstract

PEREDA GERONIMO, Melva Ysabel  and  MENESES-LA-RIVA, Mónica Elisa. Cytostatic administration in the framework of quality oncology nursing care. Revista San Gregorio [online]. 2022, vol.1, n.51, pp.111-125. ISSN 2528-7907.  https://doi.org/10.36097/rsan.v0i51.2055.

At present, the number of patients suffering from cancer has increased worldwide, most of them being treated with cytostatics. The role of the oncology nurse specialist is fundamental to maintain continuity of care, patient and family education to face the adverse effects resulting from therapy. The general objective was to evaluate the cytostatic administration practices and the quality of care of oncology nurses in a National Hospital in Lima. This was a quantitative, descriptive, ex post facto, non-experimental, cross-sectional study. The population consisted of 30 oncology nurses working in the chemotherapy service and 120 patients receiving cytostatic treatment. The results showed that most nurses of cytostatics, as well as the quality of care from the patient’s perception is good, which generates confidence in the care process. It is concluded that good cytostatic administration practices promote a safe and trusting environment for the patient. This situation favors a higher level of perception about the quality of nursing care, which allows sustaining the continuity of treatment.
