The institutional processes inherent to teaching, research, the relationship with society, generally a wealth of information that, if well managed, would effectively contribute to the continuous improvement of quality in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Therefore, academic authorities need to access useful information that allows them to monitor the progress of institutional processes with accurate, reliable and timely data, in such a way that they can prevent and / or predict negative events in academic work, which will redound In an efficient and effective management of the same, it is here where the information systems play a leading role in university management as a basis for decision-making. The objective of this work is to emphasize the value of information in the face of the quality challenges of HEIs. As results of the study, seven challenges are required, which one criterion of the authors must face with the information systems to respond to the current quality needs of university management.
