Abstract

BLANCO, María Alejandra; BLANCO, María Eugenia  and  VILA HINOJO, Bernabé Teodoro. Environmental education and attitude towards climate change in university students. Revista San Gregorio [online]. 2022, vol.1, n.49, pp.1-15. ISSN 2528-7907.  https://doi.org/10.36097/rsan.v0i49.1924.

Environmental education is a process that helps to understand environmental realities and their current deterioration. The objective of this work was to identify the relationship between environmental education and attitude towards climate change in university students of a Venezuelan university. The study was configured within the quantitative approach, descriptive correlational type, non-experimental transversal design. The sample was represented by 72 students, to whom two online questionnaires were applied. The results showed that the university students of the integral education career have a moderate level of knowledge in environmental education. They also have a moderate attitude towards climate change. A moderate positive direct correlation was identified between environmental education and attitude towards climate change. It was concluded that as long as environmental education is promoted, the attitude of the trainees towards climate change is positively strengthened, since they are more aware of the respect and care of the environment around them. Thus, it is necessary to restructure the contents, activities and structures of environmental education programs at the university level aimed at students and teachers, in order to respond adequately to present and future climate changes.

Keywords : Attitude; climate change; pollution; environmental education; preservation.
