DIAZ PEREZ, Carlos Alberto; LOPEZ MENA, Yanet; VALDES DOMECH, Hidelisa and MARTINEZ RODRIGUEZ, Milagros. Elements of relevance for a specialization in Restorative and aesthetic dentistry. San Gregorio de Portoviejo University. Revista San Gregorio [online]. 2021, vol.1, n.48, pp.45-60. ISSN 2528-7907. https://doi.org/10.36097/rsan.v0i48.1851.
The career of Dentistry at the University of San Gregorio De Portoviejo develops a specialization program in Restorative and aesthetic dentistry The objective of the study was to determine some elements of relevance for the development of this specialization program. A qualitative research was carried out following the indications of the Higher Education Council of Ecuador: documentary analysis on the prevalence of dental caries, and similar specialization programs in Latin America; surveys of general practice dentists; focus group sessions of dentistry teachers. The results show a high prevalence of dental caries in all populations globally, Ecuador and the province of Manabí. As a trend, the specialized programs analyzed have a duration of 2 years and nuclei of common knowledge: Basic Medical Sciences, Research, Ethics, Cariology, Dental Materials, Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry. 66 dentists responded to the survey, the majority strongly agreed to take the specialization program. The 35 teachers who participated in the focus group sessions considered it pertinent to carry out the specialization program. It was concluded that the needs of the context, and the international and national training trends, indicate that the specialization program in Restorative and aesthetic dentistry would be relevant.
