Las competencias profesionales son todas las habilidades y conocimientos que demuestran la apropiación de acciones psíquicas y prácticas que se adquieren en cada carrera. El estudio tuvo el objetivo de identificar la relación entre competencias profesionales y el perfil académico en estudiantes del noveno ciclo de la carrera de turismo y hotelería de una universidad particular de Lima. El estudio fue descriptivo correlacional, diseño no experimental trasversal y una muestra de 46 estudiantes que se les aplicó dos cuestionarios bajo la escala de Likert, validado por expertos y convalidado por el coeficiente de alfa de Cronbach. Se identificó que las competencias profesionales y el perfil académico de los estudiantes en su desenvolvimiento concreto en el área fue moderado bajo. Sin embargo, esto no incidió en la relación de las variables mediante el coeficiente Rho de Spearman, demostrando que guardan estrecha relación las competencias profesionales y el perfil académico. Por consiguiente, es necesario ajustar y renovar los planes de estudio en el área del turismo para el desarrollo de las competencias y el perfil académico que posibilite responder a los problemas de manera creativa y potencie en el egresado el saber hacer, ser, conocer y convivir en el entorno laboral.

Professional competencies are all the skills and knowledge that demonstrate the appropriation of psychic and practical actions acquired in each career. The objective of the study was to identify the relationship between professional competencies and the academic profile of students in the ninth cycle of the tourism and hotel management career at a private university in Lima. The study was descriptive correlational, with a transversal non-experimental design and a sample of 46 students who were administered two questionnaires under the Likert scale, validated by experts and validated by Cronbach's alpha coefficient. It was identified that the professional competencies and the academic profile of the students in the concrete performance in the area was moderately low. However, this did not affect the relationship of the variables through Spearman's Rho coefficient, demonstrating that professional competencies and academic profile are closely related. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust and renew the study plans in the area of tourism for the development of competencies and the academic profile that will make it possible to respond to problems in a creative manner and enhance the graduate's know-how, being, knowledge and coexistence in the work environment.
