El turismo urbano no está ajeno al carácter dinámico y activo que tiene el turismo a partir de vivir experiencias diferenciadas, para lo cual las ciudades poseen atractivos tangibles e intangibles que la hacen únicas para ello, como es el caso de la ciudad de Matanzas con sus importantes valores urbanísticos y culturales. Es por ello que el presente estudio propone el diseño de una ruta turística para la ciudad de Matanzas, que contribuya al desarrollo del turismo urbano, en especial para el visitante norteamericano. Se utilizó una metodología mixta, teniendo en cuenta un análisis dialéctico materialista además de técnicas con un enfoque cualitativo-cuantitativo como son: la encuesta, las entrevistas y análisis de clúster, entre otras, lo que posibilita la propuesta de rutas turísticas que contribuyan al posicionamiento del destino turístico Matanzas. Como resultados se puede significar la presentación de un procedimiento para la elaboración de rutas turísticas y la identificación de recursos turísticos que enlazados por rutas constituyen un clúster turístico que pueden favorecer al posicionamiento del destino Ciudad de Matanzas en los circuitos nacionales e internacionales.

Urban tourism is not alien to the dynamic and active nature that tourism has from living differentiated experiences, for which cities have tangible and intangible attractions that make it unique for it, as is the case of the city of Matanzas with its important urban and cultural values. That is why this study aims to design a tourist route for the city of Matanzas, which contributes to the development of urban tourism, especially for the North American visitor. A mixed methodology was used, taking into account a materialist dialectical analysis in addition to techniques with a qualitative-quantitative approach such as: the survey, interviews, cluster analysis, among others, which should make it possible to contribute to the proposal of tourist routes that contribute to the positioning of the tourist destination Matanzas. The results can mean the presentation of a procedure for the elaboration of tourist routes and the identification of tourist resources that, linked by the route, constitute a tourist cluster that can contribute to the positioning of the Ciudad de Matanzas destination in national and international circuits.
