Abstract

Innovation is a highly relevant component for extra values ​​and competitive performance in the current hotel market. For these reasons, the main objective of this research was to determine the impact of innovation management on the generation of competitive advantages for the senior hotels in Manta tourism destination, Ecuador. The methodology was based on the correspondence of performance of the innovation and competitive advantages constructs. The methods mainly used were bibliographic review, analysis-synthesis, statisticians and expert validation. The research took into account a sample of 11 hotels registered like luxury and first-class hotels. In the first stage were selected and triangulated the relevant elements of both variables, validating six innovation management functions and 11 competitive advantages. In the second stage were applied several surveys and the results showed an overall average innovation performance and a high importance for the application of competitive advantages. In the last stage was applied a statistical correlation test between innovation and competitive advantages performance with strong and positive results, with an overall incidence of 63.3%. Specifically, the surveillance, enrichment, inventory and optimization innovation functions evidenced the greatest impact on hotel competitiveness. Therefore, the innovation management represents a significant source of competitive advantage in the senior hotels in this tourist destination.
