Abstract

Metabolic Syndrome (MS) is a set of disorders caused by the combination of genetic and environmental factors, poor diet and inactivity, which is related to the increased risk of diabetes, coronary and cerebrovascular disease, and increased cardiovascular mortality. Objective: To carry out a descriptive analysis of the SM according to the criteria of the NCEP-ATP-III in workers of companies located on the Ecuadorian coast between 2017 and 2018. Methodology: Descriptive cross-section, the information to obtain the Biodimed database with a total of 7550 people, of them 5965 (79%) men and 1585 (21%) women. Using criteria of NCEP-ATP-III for the definition of SM and the classification of medical diagnoses of the CIE10. Results: The prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome in the study population was 7.1%, with the age group from 29 to 38 years of age being the highest percentage obtained; 74% of the people in the study obtained a BMI greater than 30 and 55.4% of them passed the allowed limit of the abdominal perimeter. Conclusion: Metabolic Syndrome is on the rise, with a higher prevalence in young adulthood who do not have healthy lifestyles, such as adequate nutrition and regular physical exercise.
