Resumen

ALARCON ZAMBRANO1, Jaime Alfredo. The compact city and the dispersed city: An approach from the perspectives of coexistence and sustainability. Revista San Gregorio [online]. 2020, n.39, pp.1-14. ISSN 2528-7907.  https://doi.org/10.36097/rsan.v1i39.871.

The objective of the present work is to carry out a comparative analysis of two antagonistic urban development models that are: the compact city and the dispersed city by means of five axes, and to determine which is the most convenient model to provoke coexistence and sustainability in the city. For this, a documentary research was carried out on coexistence and sustainability in the city, and on the characteristics of the two models of urban development: the compact city and the dispersed city, which are contrasted through five axes that characterize them and they differentiate and allow them to be compared under the variables of coexistence and sustainability. Among the most revealing findings, it stands out that the compact city is the most appropriate urban development model so that the city is not only a “space to live” but a “space to live together”, under the precepts of compatibility, solidarity and sustainability. As main conclusions, it is established that to achieve coexistence and sustainability in the city, a pertinent model of urban development and a committed participation of citizens are required.
