Abstract
REIS-SILVA, Lucas. In Search of the Right to Be: the Migration Project of Brazilian Women in A Coruña. Revista San Gregorio [online]. 2019, n.33, pp.34-42. ISSN 2528-7907. https://doi.org/10.36097/rsan.v1i33.956.
The present paper aims to understand the migratory project of immigrant women of Brazilian nationality, residents of the Spanish city of A Coruña. The main objective is to analyze and discuss the identities given to these women throughout this process, and how that affects practical aspects of their lives. The data collection tool used for the conduction of my qualitative research is participant observation. It involves eighteen semi-structured in-depth interviews as well as an extensive bibliographic review and documentary analysis. The results of this study show that a range of colonial, patriarchal and economic imaginaries and representations fuel the prejudice of the autochthonous population and the fear of those immigrants. Besides, all these aspects contribute to the creation of a stigmatized representation of the female Brazilian migrant population from which they aim to disassociate themselves.
