Dental caries is a public health problem of greater prevalence and incidence worldwide, with poor oral hygiene being a predisposing factor for the development of this condition. The present study has dental decay, oral hygiene and treatment needs to beneficiaries of the Sonrisas Felices project, whose objective is to determine the rate of dental caries by means of the CEOD, and oral hygiene through the Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (IHOS), in the beneficiaries of the happy smiles project, executed in Casa Hogar San Pedro, in the city of Portoviejo. This research is observational, descriptive and transversal, with a universe of 88 beneficiaries, each one was given the clinical history, which helped to determine the variables such as age, sex, prevalence of caries by means of the ceod index, and degree of oral hygiene by means of the Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (IHOS). The results obtained indicated that oral hygiene according to the Greene scale was good; however, the prevalence of dental caries was 74%, of which only 28% had dental treatments.
