The objective of this work is to promote a perspective of local development from the university extension. For this, a documentary research was carried out, highlighting the impetus to strengthen the integral access to the relevant factors and concerning the local development, presenting a holistic vision from the experience of the institutions of higher education (IES) of the region in the contribution of impacting in the environment where they are circumscribed in accordance with what was declared in the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. As a main conclusion, it is stated that the social mandate of is to perpetuate and extend scientific knowledge for the social and economic transformation of the community, with which it interacts and from which it is nourished. This research is based on the methods of bibliographic analysis, historical logic and theoretical systematization.
