Abstract

Femicide is a social phenomenon, whose legal implications have a great connotation for the welfare of citizens. For this reason the objective was to describe quantitative data of this type of violence that is increasing in society, through an analysis of percentages of cases found in the country, to contribute with recommendations for the State to improve the strategy for face this criminal problem. The descriptive methodology was applied. The statistics of femicide in Ecuador showed a growth in 2017, whose tendency was maintained in the last five years, most of the victims lived on the coast, in urban areas, being the cause of death the ex-survivor, because women they were separated or divorced from those who perpetrated the crime. Conclusion: the machista thought of the Ecuadorian society generates as a negative effect the discrimination and violence against women in some socio-demographic sectors of Ecuador, becoming a wake-up call for the governments and the community, therefore, the revision made about femicide is a social problem that is increasing and that the collaboration of society and the State is needed to promote a cultural change.
