Femicide is a worldwide problem in all societies, but particularly in patriarchal societies, it brings together all the acts of violence that result in the death of the woman; these crimes have been made visible in recent years by alarming figures, thanks to the signing of international agreements for the eradication of violence against women and to the pressures of the organizations, femicide is part of catalog of crimes in Ecuador, its typification was one of the greatest achievements in the search for measures for eradication and punishment of gender violence, in research analyzes the evolution of femicide in Ecuador, its conceptualization by differentiating femicide from femicide, through a vision of the problematic at the world level, a focus is made on Ecuadorian society particularly in aspects such as causes, changes in the legal framework and the typification of the norm, describes the main studies carried out at the national level, as well as statistics related to crime, finally concludes with a critical contribution to the application o preventive measures to gender violence that must be parallel to the norm of femicide.
