This article analyzes and interprets the importance of photography as an intergenerational communication tool for the recovery of the historical memory of the city of Portoviejo through the use and analysis of content of a sample of 60 photographs from the 1960s - 70s. In this analysis, several age groups (young, adult and older) of different social strata and gender diversity participated in various focus groups, the discursive reactant being the personal and group evocation. The objective proposed in this qualitative research, whose centrality is in the rescue of the memory of Portoviejo, with a research focus and observant participation in its later phases, has allowed to analyze the photographic contents and of statements raised around the identity, customs and Urbanism, concluding about evocation and photography as a technique of understanding and rescuing memory for better intergenerational interaction.
