Abstract

BROCHADO, Adrián Rodríguez. To re-signifying the city. Public space from / to the citizenship in this is a plaza de lavapies. Revista San Gregorio [online]. 2017, vol.1, n.17, pp.118-128. ISSN 2528-7907.

City and urbanism have distanced themselves from the citizen according to the processes of development of cities in the 21st century. As a consequence, those that live in these spaces lose their sense of identity, to the detriment of those that consider these cities to be places of leisure, diversion and consumption. This aggravates the estrangement of the citizen with respect to public spaces, which should provide the necessities not only for those that consume in these places, but also for those that think about them, change them, live them… Citizens will look to reclaim the role which corresponds to that which should represent them: public spaces and the city. I will propose Esta es una Plaza not only as a way to refute the “enlightened absolutism” of these urban planners and administrators that, distanced from the citizen, enact these rules with a purely economic view of the city, but also as an identity in which to be and to learn to be a citizen that behaves as an extension of a neighborhood, one that continues seeing and finds opportunities to demonstrate itself as such.

Keywords : Active citizenship; public spaces; identity; no place; urban planning. Copyright.
