BARON COLMENARES, Miryam Edith  y  JULIANA TURTURICA, Lina Paula. Democracy and social protest in Colombia in 2021: normative dimensions in relation to critical social psychology. E&c [online]. 2022, vol.2, n.15, pp.133-150. ISSN 2477-9245.

Social protest in Colombia (2021) occupies a prominent place in national politics, both as an indicator of shortcomings within the spaces of democratic participation and of how does participation manifest itself. This article reviews concepts and norms of democracy (participative and representative) in the context of the Sustainable Solidarity bill. The Colombian Government sent this bill to the Congress of the Republic, which triggered social unrest and mobilizations in 2021. This paper studied two laws: 134 of 1994 and 1757 of 2015; it also reviewed rulings regarding citizen and democratic participation from the Constitutional Court of Colombia. This research considers contributions from the critical social psychology approach to social protest from a perspective that questions power and focuses on participation and population demands. In conclusion, the model of democracy in Colombia has restrictions to make democracy effective and shows that protests, from intentional action, have a decisive impact on the political realm.

Palabras clave : social protest; critical social psychology; tax reform; representative democracy; participatory democracy.
