Abstract

CASTRO MADUREIRA, Vinícius de Carvalho  and  DE SOUZA, Carolina Paula. Brazil and the regional integration. E&c [online]. 2019, vol.2, n.9, pp.199-210. ISSN 2477-9245.  https://doi.org/10.37228/estado_comunes.v2.n9.2019.125.

The political, physical and commercial integration initiatives of South America have received special attention since the last quarter of the 20th century. The Brazilian scholars deals extensively with this topic, which can be found in the studies of Mário Travassos, in the National Defense Policy and, explicitly, in the sole paragraph of the article 4 of the Federal Constitution of 1988, which foresees the search for “economic, political, social and cultural integration of the peoples of Latin America, viewing the formation of a Latin-American community of nations”, as one of the objectives of the Federative Republic of Brazil. In this paper, our objective is to discuss Brazil’s relationship with regional integration and to discuss, briefly, the current moment. For that, we have done exploratory research through bibliographic review. As results, we could note that the regional integration is essential for the Brazilian international projection, however, despite of its importance, it has not yet been built up.

Keywords : Brazil; International cooperation; geopolitics; Latin American integration; regionalism; theory of the quaternary; UNASUR..
