Resumen

CABRERA TOLEDO, Lester  y  MUNOZ LASCANO, Lesly. Center, periphery and semi-periphery as geopolitical categories: the case of Chile and Peru in the 21st century. E&c [online]. 2019, vol.2, n.9, pp.87-108. ISSN 2477-9245.  https://doi.org/10.37228/estado_comunes.v2.n9.2019.119.

The present work seeks to analyze, from the tripartite vision of center, periphery and semi-periphery, the location of Chile and Peru in it, through the interpretation of different discourses applied to geopolitics. To do this, the analytical-descriptive method will be used, that is, the spatial positioning of both Chile and Peru will be analyzed, from geopolitics, considering the disciplinary perspective of the International Political Economy. In this sense, it is highlighted that although these countries have a low level of manufacturing and are positioned primarily as producers of raw materials with low added value, they have political authorities whose discourses tend to place these nations as semi-peripheries, leaving aside the social differences and the economic gaps that persist in these economies; thus, in the course of this document, the arguments that will allow the understanding of the role played by these countries within the tripartite scheme mentioned above will be presented, and it will be verified that, in spite of having a solid economic model, they still position themselves as peripheries, politically linked to the power centers of the contemporary international system.

Palabras clave : Geopolitics; Chile; Perú; dependency; foreign policy; center, periphery, semiperiferia..
