Abstract

SANCHEZ ZURITA, Jeannette. Welfare state, public policies and interethnic inequality: theoretical reflections for an applied analysis to Ecuador. E&c [online]. 2018, vol.1, n.6, pp.47-71. ISSN 2477-9245.  https://doi.org/10.37228/estado_comunes.v1.n6.2018.69.

This article shows part of the theoretical and referential debate on the welfare state, education and monetary transfers policies and their possible effects on interethnic inequality. Ecuador would have had a government with relative autonomy and political will in favor of equality during the period 2007-2014, considering the increase in social spending and the activation of socioeconomic policies towards social development. The indigenous population, historically excluded from the social services has benefited from these policies. The point of reflection is whether this has affected interethnic gaps. The theoretical references analyzed in this work guide the formulation of hypotheses on the effect of education and monetary transfers policies for a study applied to the Ecuadorian case in an active period of socioeconomic policies.

Keywords : Welfare State; public policies; education; social protection; monetary transfers; etnicity; indigenous population.
