Abstract

GARCIA ALVAREZ, Santiago. Advances and limitations of Latin American economic integration: the difficult but indispensable path of productive complementarity. E&c [online]. 2017, vol.1, n.4, pp.87-104. ISSN 2477-9245.  https://doi.org/10.37228/estado_comunes.v1.n4.2017.42.

This article analyzes the two visions of integration that co-exist in Latin America, neoliberal and post-liberal, and how they create conditions and restrictions over the productive integration. In spite of the presence of factors of dispersion and fragmentation by multiple regional and sub-regional agreements, a real tragedy is not expected, but rather a combined action of CELAC and UNASUR could be a relevant alternative to increase the density of regional economic relations by means of a political mandate for harmonization of both tariff and rules of origin.

Keywords : Latin American integration; productive integration; regional trade..
