Abstract

ANDRADE, Karla Sosa. The becoming of affective powers in the artistic work of Daya Ortiz Durán. Índex [online]. 2022, n.13, pp.119-133. ISSN 2477-9199.  https://doi.org/10.26807/cav.v0i13.472.

To think of the strokes, traces and chemical processes that come together in the work of Daya Ortiz Durán is to think of a dictionary capable of translating the signs of the body. A body, whose cartography supposes an unavoidable quality of affecting and being affected by other bodies, things or substances. To this extent, Ortiz's artistic practice manifests itself as an inexhaustible exploration, which is in a constant state of becoming, which takes as its starting point her affections charged with different degrees of power and materializes them in artistic proposals.

Thus, this essay analyzes eight works by Ortiz that are born from affections of different orders and are capable of recognizing the vulnerability of the body. These works invite us to think, above all, what happens when affects invade a body, inhabit it and dislodge it to make room for new affects that will converge on it again.

Keywords : body; affections; becoming; degrees of power.
