Abstract

IWAMA, Kasumi. FEMINIST COLLECTIVITY IN ART ACTIVISM: METHODOLOGIES IN ANDREA ZAMBRANO ROJAS’ PIECE “CALZONES PARLANTES”. Índex [online]. 2021, n.12, pp.165-178. ISSN 2477-9199.  https://doi.org/10.26807/cav.vi12.435.

This article investigates de importance of visuality and art in activism, through a research of the piece “Calzones parlantes” by Andrea Zambrano Rojas, Ecuadorian artist. I introduce the artist and her project, which is analyzed focusing on the intersection between feminist methodologies, activism, and art. This is related to activism using the Spanish philosopher Marina Garcés’ approach to activism based on the idea of “poner el cuerpo”, or “presenting the body”. The article concludes by emphasizing the relevance of art activism for its capacity to help us speak out collectively and, moreover, reclaim our humanity in an age of capitalism. The article is based largely on two in-depth interviews conducted with the artist and her reflections on the experience.

Keywords : feminism; art activism; putting the body; Andrea Zambrano Rojas; transdisciplinary practices; collective.
