Abstract

BRUNA, Rodrigo. AN ALBUM OF QUOTES: THE IMAGINARY MUSEUM OF ANDRÉ MALRAUX. Índex [online]. 2021, n.12, pp.91-105. ISSN 2477-9199.  https://doi.org/10.26807/cav.vi12.445.

In 1947 André Malraux wrote his famous essay Le Musée imaginaire, a text from which the author calls on people to create their own museum by abolishing the spatial and temporal limitations imposed by the traditional museum institution. Through this heterogeneous collection of images, Malraux revisits the history of art from a logic in which he prioritizes the subjectivity of photographic framing and the album as a space for a random encounter. Under this premise, this article seeks to reflect on the quote in the field of visual arts and how it is linked to the notion of museum proposed by André Malraux. To propose a methodology that addresses the problem stated from the critical analysis of written and visual sources convened in this writing.

Keywords : museum; quote; album; visual arts.
