Abstract

PINEDA REPIZO, Adryan Fabrizio. LACEMAKER IN SITU” BY BEATRIZ GONZÁLEZ: AN ESSAY ON PLACE IN COLOMBIAN ART. Índex [online]. 2021, n.12, pp.77-90. ISSN 2477-9199.  https://doi.org/10.26807/cav.vi12.447.

This paper presents a reflection on the work “Lacemaker in situ” by the Colombian artist Beatriz González. The relationships that the work establishes between Vermeer's painting, its corresponding transformation in González's style, the wicker trunk into which the image fits, and the cultural world that carries the woven object reflect González's interest in thinking and making art from the place. Furthermore, the work itself problematizes the notion of place, its provincial, in situ and tactical character in a world of dominant artistic and cultural influences. Her position then invites us to review categories and places of enunciation to think about the art of our region.

Keywords : Beatriz González; Lacemaker in situ; place; critical vocation; tactics; provincial.
