"The Grandfather's Steps" is the photographic series exhibited at the Museo Archivo de Arquitectura del Ecuador from February 29 to August 5, 2020. After several years documenting the architectural work of Oswaldo de la Torre (1926-2012), my paternal grandfather, I propose this essay that plays between the photographic image and the architectural image, walking a tightrope between its dialectical peers: light-darkness, instant-eternity, memory-forgetting, reality- fiction, presence-absence, among others. This essay proposes a historical and reflective journey about the cultural architectural heritage, the relationship between architecture, photography and light, and the role of photography in preserving memory.
