Abstract

SUAREZ DEL VILLAR SUAREZ, Laritza Beatriz. BACK TO THE HOUSE OF CHILDHOOD. EXHIBITION: LOS HIJOS DE PEDRO PAN BY CUBAN-AMERICAN ARTIST ERNESTO PUJOL. Índex [online]. 2021, n.11, pp.87-101. ISSN 2477-9199.  https://doi.org/10.26807/cav.vi11.413.

The Cuban cultural institution Casa de las Americas opened its exhibition rooms to the diaspora of Cuban artists in 1995 after the inauguration of the exhibition Los hijos de Pedro Pan by the Cuban American artist Ernesto Pujol. In his childhood the artist migrated to Puerto Rico and then to the United States, in the early 1960s when the revolutionary economic, political, and social transformation was taking place in Cuba. It will not be until his adulthood that Pujol returns to his childhood home and coordinates, with the Directorate of Plastic Arts of Casa de las Americas, to insert himself into the Cuban artistic circuit through the realization of his exhibition. The artist used his childhood memories, for the construction of five installations that reflect on the circumstances caused by the migratory process and his truncated personal identity.

Keywords : art; migration; exhibition; memory; identity.
