Abstract

TORRES VEGA, Mireille. MINERVA AYÓN: A QUEER ASSEMBLAGE. Índex [online]. 2021, n.11, pp.71-86. ISSN 2477-9199.  https://doi.org/10.26807/cav.vi11.416.

This analysis addresses the most representative aspects of Minerva Ayón's artistic practice, which is a reflection on the body, gender, and desire in time. Her work denies the traditional aesthetic principles of representational art by experimenting with contemporary materials that can be appreciate in the form of assemblages. I frame the present analysis in material feminism and establish a relationship between the notion of sculptural assemblage and a notion of philosophical assemblage based on the concept of agencement by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. This relationship makes it possible to destabilize the territories of the masculine and the feminine to propose the development of this artist's work as a way of queering and defying various types of borders -social and temporal borders as well as borders linked to media and identities.

Keywords : material feminism; assemblage; body; queer; posthumanism; sculpture; installation art.
