Abstract

BERRIOS GONZALEZ, Pablo Salvador. NOTES ON ARTISTIC NEO-EXTRACTIVISM IN LATIN AMERICA. Índex [online]. 2021, n.11, pp.25-38. ISSN 2477-9199.  https://doi.org/10.26807/cav.vi11.363.

At the turn of the 21st century, an important number of Latin American countries turned to neo-extractivism as a development model, one based on the export of raw materials to improve their rate of profit. This change has in turn a consonance in Latin American art, particularly in its circulation in the international art system, through launching a period of reformulation of its conceptual bases, to facing from new theoretical platforms, the conditions of representation through which Latin American Art is inserted in the international art system. Based on this characterization, in this article I investigate the possible relationships between the productive model of neo-extractivism and the circulation of Latin American art in the international art system in the 21st century, establishing the links in the operating strategies that can be traced between them.

Keywords : Latin American art; international art system; artistic circulation; curatorship; artistic neo-extractivism; cultural representation.
