Abstract

ROCHA RAMIREZ, Susan. Jaime Andrade Moscoso (1925 - 1989) at the Museo Universitario MUCE. Índex [online]. 2020, n.9, pp.176-189. ISSN 2477-9199.  https://doi.org/10.26807/cav.v0i09.315.

This article describes the curatorial approach of the current exhibition of Jaime Andrade Moscoso in the Museo Universitario de la Universidad Central del Ecuador (MUCE), one of the most important sculptor, muralist and artist of Ecuadorian art in the twentieth century. Andrade was also a professor at the School of Fine Arts, conceptualizer, manager and first dean of the Faculty of Arts of the Universidad Central and co-creator of his Art Center. He thought it was more important to learn to see than to do, and that this is achieved through experimentation with multiple materials and with the space present in the composition. He went through the currents of indigenismo, ancestralism, abstractionism, kineticism, among others, not remaining too long in any of them. His work is a window to observe several drifts of modern art.

Keywords : Jaime Andrade Moscoso; modernism; sculpture; murals; drawing.
